Underclass 7: Excerpt Two

“My parents died in a car accident while we were on our way to a camping site one summer. I was only fifteen. I found it hard having to move from care home to care home. I couldn’t establish any routine and just thought my life was over. But it was like my prayers were answered when I started developing feelings for one of my carers at seventeen. It wasn’t the feeling of attraction but more of affection. She reminded me of my mother so much. Once I was old enough to live on my own, the relationship between us changed and it was like our bond had broken. She stopped contacting me and I partly believe it was because she was developing feelings for me that she believed to be inappropriate. Since then, love hasn’t been in my vocabulary, especially for women. I get attracted, get what I want, then on to the next one,”
