I Vigilante: Part Three – After

Cairo didn’t know how to move forward after Ranger had told him what he did. He couldn’t believe that Catherine had cheated on him, despite the evidence, but what burned his soul was that she had given her lover HIV. That meant Ranger wasn’t the only one getting a piece of what was his, and it killed Cairo that little bit more every time he thought about it. He had taken Ranger’s phone and found more evidence about Catherine’s infidelity. The filthy texts and the racy pictures.

“What could she have seen in a piece of scum like him?” Cairo asked himself.

That was the least of his problems now. He sat patiently in the clinic as he waited for his HIV results back. He felt that it would come back positive because how could it not? He had a very much active sex life with Catherine, and after killing Ranger, Cairo thought karma was heading his way. He thought long and hard about what happened, and realised the only real victim of it all was his little girl, Kayla. His heart ached at her absence, but beat in favour of her memory. Ranger’s death was for her, and only her.

“Mr Smith can you come through please?” asked the nurse

Cairo made his way to the room silently as he prepared himself for the worst. His palms began to sweat and his throat began to tighten up. It’s like he could feel death was near without even knowing what the results were yet.

“Your results have come back negative. Don’t look so frightened,” the nurse smiled.

Cairo was unable to reciprocate her joy. Was he meant to be happy now? Happy that his cheating wife hadn’t given him HIV? He left as silently as he entered, and sat in his car. He stared blankly through the windscreen with an empty mind. He wanted revenge. He wanted answers, but all he got is a lesson in pain. He wasn’t going to live again until he knew who his dead wife really was, and who else she was really with.

To be continued…
